Augusta County heart disease and stroke prevalence reduction program

Over the last 5 years there has been an increase in the number of heart diseases and stroke in Augusta county and the whole country. Augusta County public health board, Methodist churches in the County and Fast fitness gym are on a mission of sensitizing the public on the two health conditions. The month of April 2021 has been dedicated to various activities that will take place in different places. The activities are aimed at giving the relevant information to all adults in the county.

During the health events, Augusta County public health board will have health care professionals visit the Methodist churches on different dates. They will give health talks during the Sunday services and thereafter the congregants will have the opportunity to be screened by having free checks for blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, height, and bmi. Staff members from fast fitness gym will also be available to give information on discounted gym membership, services that they offer, and answer questions related to exercise and weight gain. The people who will be identified as needing further consultation will be referred to primary health care departments and if necessary, to the emergency departments and urgent care centers for further management.

Sabodh Gupta in his book on 7 habits for weight loss forever says that “most of the human body diseases such as obesity, cancer, heart disease are linked with our food that we eat in our day-to-day life.” Some of the risk factors to heart diseases and stroke can be reduced or eliminated through a healthy diet and healthy habits that the Augusta county public health board and its partners are determined to educate the residents on. There will be a registered nutritionist during the Sunday health talks to advise on balanced diet, proper food preparation and service.

According to the office of disease prevention and health promotion, heart disease cost the nation over $370 billon on health expenses every year. Families in our county continue to pay for the hefty medical bills associated with heart disease and stroke. Come and join us to learn more about the leading killers in the United states.
